SELOUS GAME RESERVE With borders that enclose 54’000 square kilometers, Selous is the largest game reserve not only in Tanzania, but in all of Africa and is located 146 kilometers from Dar es Salaam as an aircraft flies.
Mtemere airstrip (lat: 7’45’3.75”S by Lon:38’12’30.99”E) is the busiest of the airstrips, built next to one of the Parks gates. Mtemere Airstrip is used by a large number of the camps within Selous, and is located close to Mloka village, where several photographic camps, at a more affordable price are situated on or close to the Rufiji River, just out side the reserve boundaries.
The flight time to Mtemere gate is about 35 minutes, and 5 to 10 minutes from Mtemere to any of the other airstrips within the park.
Beho Beho and Sandriver are situated at a considerable distance from the most commonly used airstrips and so have constructed their own. All transfers to and from the camps within the Selous will be organized by the camps, in the form of a game drive as you step off the plane.
Coastal provides two flights daily to Selous. For more information on flight times, please see the coastal flight schedules. If you would like to enquire about a charter flight please contact Coastal by email or telephone.
